Albuquerque, NM - Capstone Real Estate Services, Inc., a prominent property management company, recently hosted the grand opening of Casitas de Colores Apartments, the first family “garden style” mixed-income, environmentally sustainable community to be located in the heart of downtown Albuquerque. The event was attended by local officials, Casitas ownership partners, Capstone representatives, and Casitas residents. This unique development opened its doors to the public at the end of 2013, and offers a variety of both income-restricted and market-rate units for lease. Construction has been completed on all three residential buildings, and initial leasing efforts are wrapping up as the property approaches full occupancy.
Designed as a “family-focused” community, Casitas is comprised of mostly two and three-bedrooms, in addition to studios and one-bedroom floor plans. Apartments feature private patios or balconies and Energy Star appliances, and the community offers a fitness center and courtyards designed to accommodate outdoor recreation for families. Partnerships with non-profit organizations such as YES Housing and Youth Development Incorporated allow the community to offer professional development to its residents, as well as an array of social services.
A leading example of sustainable building, Casitas is designed to meet LEED Platinum, Energy Star, and Enterprise Green certifications. Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is a set of rating systems for the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of green buildings, homes and neighborhoods. Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), LEED is intended to help building owners and operators be environmentally responsible and use resources efficiently.
